It would be great if hexchat supported encrypted direct dialogs using Off The Record (OR) like many other IRC clients. There is a working plugin available from https://github.com/TingPing/hexchat-otr implementing this, but it is not actively maintained.
The best would be if OTR was included as part of the core functionallity of hexchat. Would you be willing to add this?
The problem is Windows. This requires building libotr4, which depends on libgcrypt, which depends on libgpg-error, all of which do not have VS projects upstream AFAIK.
Also since I barely maintain the project as-is I doubt that will change.
There is an alternative OTR plugin written in python available from https://github.com/SpiralP/HexChat-otr/ . It claim windows compatibility. Perhaps an easier solution?
Python scripts aren't relevant for official support as the scripting interfaces are optional.
Aha. Perhaps such OTR plugin could be provided in some contrib/optional directory, to make OTR support more visible to all the developers looking at hexchat?
:+1: for native OTR support, irssi and Pidgin have it already and it's also wished for WeeChat (which currently has it only with script).
Actually looking into it and hexchat-otr has a decent portion of Linux only code, so that will have to be made portable anyway.
Debian already have a package
Any news here?
