Laravel-excel: [QUESTION] Queued chunk reading job fails

Created on 17 Oct 2018  ·  21Comments  ·  Source: Maatwebsite/Laravel-Excel

Prerequisites

  • [ ] Able to reproduce the behaviour outside of your code, the problem is isolated to Laravel Excel.
  • [x] Checked that your issue isn't already filed.
  • [x] Checked if no PR was submitted that fixes this problem.

Versions

  • PHP version: 7.1.23
  • Laravel version: 5.6
  • Package version: 3.1.2

Description

When I try to import a file (doesn't matter if it is .xlsx, .ods or .csv) and queue the chunk reading, the job fails with this error in my failed_jobs table:
InvalidArgumentException: File "/tmp/SWQF2KfyI6BP0k1x" does not exist. in /home/miguel/www/html/proliste/vendor/phpoffice/phpspreadsheet/src/PhpSpreadsheet/Shared/File.php:137

Steps to Reproduce

Expected behavior:

I expected the job to be done without failure. If I don't queue the job it works with no problem.

Actual behavior:
The stack trace in failed_jobs table:

Additional Information

From the stack trace the error seems to come from PhpSpreadsheet, I thought it was a read/write rights issue, but my /tmp folder is 777, and my php.ini file has not changed since the install (except for upload_max_filesize post_max_size).

My ContactsImport class:

<?php

        }

        $area_id = intval(substr($row['code_postal'], 0, 2)) !== 0 ? intval(substr($row['code_postal'], 0, 2)) : 1;

Try changing the temp_path (https://github.com/Maatwebsite/Laravel-Excel/blob/3.1/config/excel.php#L28) to e.g. your storage folder. Might fix the problem for you.

Hi @MLouis ,

Could you check the code of your controller?
You're using the Importable trait, so in you're controller you should use
(new ContactsImport)->queue('file.ext');

Please refer to Importables

If the issue is still not resolved after this, please post the code of your controller as well.

Hi @GlennM, thanks for your reply !

In my controller I tried both:

Excel::import(new ContactsImport, $request->file('liste'));
// and
(new ContactsImport)->queue($request->file('liste'));

I also tried to first store the user submitted file before passing it to ContactsImport:

$fileName = Str::uuid() . '.' . $request->file('liste')->getClientOriginalExtension();
$request->file('liste')->storeAs('listes', $fileName);
Excel::import(new ContactsImport, 'listes/' . $fileName);
// also tried with
(new ContactsImport)->queue('listes/' . $fileName);

But I still get the same error InvalidArgumentException: File "/tmp/whatever" does not exist. in /home/miguel/www/html/proliste/vendor/phpoffice/phpspreadsheet/src/PhpSpreadsheet/Shared/File.php:137

My ListController:

<?php

namespace App\Http\Controllers;

use Illuminate\Http\Request;
use App\Imports\ContactsImport;
use App\Exports\ContactsExport;
use App\Contact;
use App\Rubric;
use App\Area;
use App\Cart;
use Excel;
use DB;
use App\Http\Requests\ListRequest;
use Illuminate\Support\Facades\Storage;
use Illuminate\Support\Str;

class ListController extends Controller
{
    public function import(Request $request)
    {
        $request->validate([
            'liste' => 'required'
        ]);

        $fileName = Str::uuid() . '.' . $request->file('liste')->getClientOriginalExtension();
        $request->file('liste')->storeAs('listes', $fileName);

        (new ContactsImport)->queue('listes/' . $fileName);

        return back()->with('status', 'Liste ajoutée avec succès');
    }
}

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce it.

The following code should work in the controller:

namespace App\Http\Controllers;

use Illuminate\Http\Request;

public function import(Request $request)
{
    (new ContactsImport)->queue($request->file('liste'));

    return back()->with('status', 'Liste ajoutée avec succès');
}

FYI, I'm using a simplified version, this is the method in my controller:

public function process(Request $request)
{
    (new UsersImport)->queue($request->file('dataset'));

    return back()->with('success', 'All good!');
}

And my UsersImport class:

<?php

namespace App\Imports;

use App\User;
use Illuminate\Contracts\Queue\ShouldQueue;
use Maatwebsite\Excel\Concerns\Importable;
use Maatwebsite\Excel\Concerns\ToModel;
use Maatwebsite\Excel\Concerns\WithBatchInserts;
use Maatwebsite\Excel\Concerns\WithChunkReading;
use Maatwebsite\Excel\Concerns\WithHeadingRow;

class UsersImport implements ToModel, WithHeadingRow, WithBatchInserts, WithChunkReading, ShouldQueue
{
    use Importable;

    /**
    * @param array $row
    *
    * @return \Illuminate\Database\Eloquent\Model|null
    */
    public function model(array $row)
    {
        return new User([
            'name' => $row['name'],
            'email' => $row['email'],
            'password' => $row['id'],
        ]);
    }

    /**
     * @return int
     */
    public function batchSize(): int
    {
        return 1000;
    }

    /**
     * @return int
     */
    public function chunkSize(): int
    {
        return 1000;
    }
}

I tried adding/removing WithHeadingRow, WithBatchInserts, WithChunkReading, Importable, using ToCollection instead of ToModel without success. It only works when I don't queue the job.

And I don't have any problem exporting a list with a queued job, only the imports fail.

Maybe the problem comes from a misconfiguration of my dev server ?

Maybe the problem comes from a misconfiguration of my dev server ?

That might be the case indeed.
I tested on PHP 7.1 / Laravel 5.6 and PHP 7.2 / Laravel 5.7 and was able to import the file in both cases, using ToModel, WithHeadingRow, WithBatchInserts, WithChunkReading and ShouldQueue and Importable

If you use the software commercially and need elaborate support or need it urgently, we can offer this on a commercial basis. Please refer to our Support page in that case.

I might be on a lead: after trying a queued export of 150K+ rows the job failed giving me the same error, but not instantly like with the import, after 20 AppendQueryToSheet jobs.
So it might be a problem with my /tmp folder, like a size limit. I'm on Debian 9, but I only have 3 partitions: / (containing /tmp), /home and swap, this is not a partition size limit.

I'll give you updates if I find something! :pray:

__Edit__
Should I rename this issue as [QUESTION] instead of [BUG] ?

Try changing the temp_path (https://github.com/Maatwebsite/Laravel-Excel/blob/3.1/config/excel.php#L28) to e.g. your storage folder. Might fix the problem for you.

Thank you @patrickbrouwers, it fixed my problem, I can import and export large files without any error!

@patrickbrouwers there is no temp_path in config excel. can you elaborate?

@sharjeelz if you have the config file of the latest version see: https://github.com/Maatwebsite/Laravel-Excel/blob/3.1/config/excel.php#L167 Currently there's a fallback on temp_path for people using the old config.

Hey guys, I know this is a stale issue. But I seem to be having a very similar issue. Both my coworker and I are running the same codebase, where I get the "File X does not exist" and he does not. We're guessing it's a configuration issue. But even when I change the config/local_path, I'm still unable to get passed the issue.

I'm really just looking for known problems that could be causing this. We're both running our Laravel projects locally on macbooks and are using the lib version 3.1.17

The filename C:UsersAshimAppDataLocalTemplaravel-excel-K6OeXpSQuAARlI0UrSeOAkFZ0kELq0Ax.xls is not recognised as an OLE file

How can i solve this

Hello, I'm having this same issue but my question is: why does it shows a different file name from the one I sent in import function? Does it creates a temp file from which it reads the info from?

This is the error I'm receiving but the file I sent was 'temp/12020-04.xlsx'. I already checked if it is indeed receiving this file. If it does create a temp, why can't it find the file?

Hi @patrickbrouwers, thank u so much for your quick response. I tried that but it didn't solve my problem :(

$header = (new HeadingRowImport)->toArray($request->file('arquivo'))[0][0];

$file = Storage::putFileAs(
    'temp',
    $request->file('arquivo'),
    $request->input('dashboard_id') . str_replace("/", "-", $request->input('ano_mes')) . '.' . pathinfo($request->file('arquivo')->getClientOriginalName())['extension']
);

if ($request->input('acao') == "import") {
    Excel::import((new DadosImport($request->input('ano_mes'), $request->input('dashboard_id'), $header, $file, true)), $file);
} else {
    Excel::import((new DadosImport($request->input('ano_mes'), $request->input('dashboard_id'), $header, $file)), $file);
}

This is my import function, it's pretty standard. The file is saved in the right folder. I also tried using public_path($file). Does import creates a temp file?

I deleted the project, reinstalled everything and now it's all working hahah thank you so much for your help :))

I used queue job for export excel anfd the job can't run because it show me exception:
ErrorException: fopen(/var/www/html/biomaze.ir/storage/framework/laravel-excel/laravel-excel-85fvUcwqDwshFsD4o5PWwtamG83wnzG6): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/html/biomaze.ir/vendor/phpoffice/phpspreadsheet/src/PhpSpreadsheet/Writer/BaseWriter.php:111

please help?please

Try changing the owner and permissions on storage
sudo chown -R www-data:<your_username> storage/ && sudo chmod -R g+w storage/

I get the same problem.

Im running my dev env within homestead, the temp file is created fine (so the app can see the uploaded csv ), however phpspreadsheet seems to be having a problem finding the file when running within a queue:

InvalidArgumentException {#1344 #message: "File "/home/vagrant/code/storage/app/data-imports/laravel-excel-YNpPHnBtKZXaXKIbR68goCYM5qLlzUxt.csv" does not exist." #code: 0 #file: "./vendor/phpoffice/phpspreadsheet/src/PhpSpreadsheet/Shared/File.php" #line: 135

The queue won't get past the initial ReadChunk job. If I use tinker and do a file_exists() on this path, the file is there.

Anyone faced this and solved it?

So, the problem was being caused by the queue:listen command being run OUTSIDE of vagrant.

To eliminate this problem, you MUST run the queue worker from within vagrant.

vagrant ssh
cd code
php artisan queue:listen

works sweet.

| Value Binder
|--------------------------------------------------------------------------
|
| PhpSpreadsheet offers a way to hook into the process of a value being

| you can implement your own default value binder.
|
| Possible value binders:

    | want to mitigate that, you can configure a cell caching driver here.
    | When using the illuminate driver, it will store each value in a the

    | store each value. You can use the "batch" store if you want to
